RIVER THAMES FESTIVAL
The sculpture is a large scale light installation created by 4000 school children across the boroughs of London. 3 glowing sculptures, each as large as a life-size shipping container, are constructed from stacked lanterns created by individual school children that are lit dynamically from the inside to reveal the contents of the containers.
Children learn about the fascinating history of London’s river industry, the influence of containerisation on ports, global trade and our individual lives. The project highlights the awe inspiring reality of how the items we sustain us travel overseas to reach us.
