TOPSFIELD ROAD   A whole house refurbishment in Crouch End with a full width loft extension and generous side extension. The timber and glass side extension was designed to be proportionately high in contrast with the existing low and linear volume of the kitchen adjacent to it, giving the space a dramatic feel, welcome yet unexpected in a typical Victorian terrace. The loft was fitted with full width folding sliding doors, so that in summer the whole of the rear wall could effectively be opened, connecting physically and visually with the outside.

Large sliding doors were installed between the two rooms, flexibility between the two rooms. Large elevated roof lights were placed across both spaces to bring direct sunlight in, but to make the space feel higher as the ceiling height achievable was restricted existing levels in the house. Full width glazed door were installed across the entire rear wall to connect the new space with the garden.

Using discrete yet modern frameless glass, and a picture window at the end of the space, light and space and views were brought into this previously dark and narrow apartment.

The space was reconfigured to allow the benefits of a free flowing open plan space, yet including key elements that allow temporary separation for privacy. The finishes combined a contrast of very high spec fittings and furniture, with an almost unfinished quality of the walls and floors. Making this a very distinct and characterful space.
